Harriet Alice Andrews

Harriet Alice Andrews, 94, of Tea and formerly of Pierre, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lennox, surrounded by her family.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller.

Harriet was born March 25, 1920 at Aberdeen, South Dakota to Walter J. and Jeannette (Timberlake) Allen. After completing high school in Aberdeen, she attended South Dakota State University, graduating in 1942 with a degree in Sociology. Harriet was united in marriage to Wendell W. Andrews on June 13, 1942 in San Diego, California. One son, Gregory, and one daughter, Barbara, were born to this union.

Harriet was a homemaker, as the family moved from Huron to Minnesota to Miller to Pierre, and finally to Tea. She was active in both the First Presbyterian Church of Miller and the Oahe Presbyterian Church of Pierre. Harriet did book-keeping for the family business in Miller, was a member of PEO while in Pierre, and was an avid sports enthusiast all her life. Her love of music, art, history and English was passed to her children and her grandson over the years. She was instrumental in working with her son-in-law on speech therapy starting in 1979. Harriet especially loved all the time and activities she shared with her grandson in Pierre through the years.

She is survived by her children; Gregory Andrews and Barbara (Joel) Paulson; grandchildren, Dr. Drew (Dr. Kristine) Paulson; great grandchildren: Bruce, Axel, and Brix Paulson; brother, William T. (Jane) Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters: Barbara (Robert) Wegner and Joan (Tim) Dunn.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Good Samaritan Society, 404 E. 6th Ave, Lennox, South Dakota.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Harriet’s arrangements.
