Lawrence Daryl Yost was born in south Hand County to Clarence and Gladys (Campbell) Yost on June 14, 1931. He attended country school until the eighth grade then decided he was smart enough that he didn’t need to go to high school. He worked for various neighbors until he was drafted. He served in Korea for three years as a corporal in the Army.
When he returned home from Korea, he met the love of his life, Beverly Stymiest, who he married August 14, 1955 in the St. Lawrence Church. They moved to south Hand County where they lived and farmed. Three daughters were added to this union; Susan Marie, Terri Lea, and Vicki Lynn. In 1985, they moved to Miller but continued to do some custom farming and worked for the sale barn in town for several years.
Lawrence loved fishing and hunting. He raced for a couple of years, earning high points champion in the Class “C” Hobbystock division, as well as most popular driver in 1966. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and watching wildlife such as birds and squirrels outside his window. Above all, he loved to see his family, especially his grandkids, great-grandkids, and his dog Toby. He made everyone welcome with his generous spirit. He always said when someone stopped by around mealtime that they would find something, no one would go hungry.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly (Stymiest) Yost; his three daughters, Susan (Dale) Hargens, Terri (John) Kump, Vicki (Keith) VanDerWerff; his grandchildren, Andrea (Bertin) Hargens-Flores, Janice (Tim) Gilbert, Jeremy Hargens, Kristin (Drew) Kolda, Charlie (Karen) Kump, Dixie (YungBen) Yelvington, Wade (Michelle) VanDerWerff, Rusty (Jill) VanDerWerff, Ashley (Jonathan) Hurd; his great-grandchildren, Laura, Justin, Xavier, Dawson, Shawn, Cain, Jackson, Gesina, Mikhail, Louise, Kaylee, Ava, Cassi, Kellan, Chase, Isabelle, Quinn and Elijah; his sisters, Lenore Yost, JoAnn Ledford and Joyce (Robert) Meyer; and special family friend, Helen Holston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clarence Jr. Yost; his sister, Judy Scott; and his grandson, Justin Hargens.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Lawrence’s arrangements.
