Loren Lyle Gibson

Loren Lyle Gibson, 69, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Aug. 20, 2015.

Loren was born in Miller, SD, to Lavina (Prohaska) and Walter Gibson on June 29, 1946. He was raised in Miller most of his life but spent a year in Piedmont. Loren joined the Army in 1967. He was a proud Vietnam Vet, serving two years over there. Between 1972 and 1991, Loren was married to Dannette Grate and they had four children, Bill Grate, Marie Gibson, Connie Gibson, and Catherine Gibson. In 1994 he married Carolyn Hassing and they remained married for 21 years. Loren spent his time fly fishing, hobby wood working, and he would spend his Wednesday nights with his auction buddies down at Ralph’s Auction.

Loren is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gibson of Box Elder; son, Bill Grate of Sturgis; daughters, Marie Gibson of Newell, Connie Butcher (Walter) of Martin, Catherine Myers (Ronald) of Belle Fourche; brothers, Scott Gibson of Miller, Allen Gibson of Rapid City; sisters, Linda Rowland of Grands NM, LeAnna Masters of Piedmont; grandkids, Heidi, Toby, Amanda, Vernon; great granddaughter, Samantha; plus many nieces and nephews.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Lavina and Walter; infant brother and first wife, Dannette.

Memorial services are set for 1 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 27, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Inurnment with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery.
