Marilyn Mabel Cavenee was born March 5, 1933 to Lloyd and Mabel (McNeely) Cavanee on a farm north of Wessington, South Dakota. Marilyn graduated from Wessington High School in 1951. On June 17, 1951, she married Byron Meehan. They made their home in Miller and had five children: Micheal, Terry, Cindy, Tommy, and Paula. Marilyn took care of her children and worked at various jobs. She retired in 1996 after working for Charlie Wilber at Wilber’s Feed and Seed as a bookkeeper for 25 years.
Her passion was her family. Marilyn loved her children, sisters, brothers, and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. To her family, she was the mother who worked hard at being “fair” and being a “peacemaker”. Marilyn cooked many family holiday meals and enjoyed every minute. After her children grew up, her love continued and grew with her grandchildren; traveling to see them as much as possible. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in all their activities.
Her memory will be cherished by her children and grandchildren: daughter, Terry (Dale) Engelmann; daughter, Cindy (John) Butler and children: Luke (Ashley) Mattson and Lydie and Adam, Hallie (Jared) Mattson and Brielle Marilyn; son, Tommy (Gayle) Meehan and children: Sarah (Joe) Ortmeier and Alexis and Megan Meehan and Trevor Meehan; daughter, Paula (Lloyd) Schwartz and children: Danielle Davis, Chelsea Davis, and Heather (Cutter) Murray; sisters: Bonnie (Lawrence) Runge, Sharon (David) Vitters, and Nedra (Gordon) Fleihe; brothers: Wesley Cavenee and Art Cavenee; and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mabel Cavenee; her husband, Byron in 1997; an infant son, Micheal; grandson, Patrick Dale Engelmann; nephew, Jason Cavenee; and sister, Joan Colling
Marilyn has now joined those in heaven that she loved and has longed to be with; her husband, By, her son, Micheal, and her beloved grandson, Patrick Dale.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Marilyn’s arrangements.
