Lois Irene Allen, 90, of Miller, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the St. Lawrence Community Church with Pastor Scot Tutt officiating. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church with Pastor Jesse Hammer officiating.
Lois Irene Chambers was born December 4, 1924 at Hot Springs, SD to Roy and Olive (Coon) Chambers. Their family moved to Philip, SD where they had a dairy and hog operation. Lois graduated from Philip High School in 1942 and worked two years as a secretary for the S.D. Rural Credit at Philip. She graduated from St. John’s McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City in February of 1947 under the U.S. Army Nurse Cadet Corps. She then worked as a nurse in Rapid City for five years.
On June 7, 1952 Lois was united in marriage to Russell Allen of Miller, SD at Canyon Lake Methodist Church in Rapid City. Theirs was the first wedding in that church of which Lois was a charter member. She later joined the Church of the Nazarene in Miller. Lois worked for nearly 30 years as a register nurse at the Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller. Nursing was a very strong passion in her life.
Lois loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her three children: David (Linda) Allen of Miller, Donna Kennedy of Las Vegas, and Deva (Kevin) Jones of Peoria, Arizona; one grandson, Seth (Carlee) Allen of St. Lawrence and their two children, Corbin and Kennedy; one granddaughter, Rebecca (Augustin) Granados of Huron and their two children, Angel and Ellena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; one sister, Eleanor Runnalls; one brother, William (Martha) Chambers; and one son-in-law, Paul Kennedy.
