Marion was born February 20, 1917 to Bernard Nelson and Lucy (Stobbs) Rombough on her grandfather’s (John Stobbs) farm, in Hulbert Township, Hand County, near Wessington, SD. Marion attended school through the eighth grade at Bothwell School in Hulbert Township. With no money to pay for high school board and room during the Depression, Marion took years off to perform farm chores. She later graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1937. Marion married Veral Isaac Borah on May 11, 1938, in Alexandra, SD. They established their home in Rose Hill Township, Hand County. On April 3, 1939, they were blessed by the birth of their daughter, Nina Lorraine Borah. They moved to Miller in 1945 prior to Nina starting first grade.

Early on she worked at different places as a dishwasher, housekeeper, laundress, cook, and nurse. Later, she worked in the office at Tri-State Insulation, then at the Bernard Coss Insurance Agency. Marion’s first loves were her family, garden, and flowerbeds. She spent many hours canning her produce and making jellies and jams. Being self-taught, she was accomplished in sewing, baking, art, music, and writing. Her second love was her church and church family at the Miller First United Methodist Church; where she taught Sunday school for 51 years, played the organ, and was a lay-speaker standing in for the pastor on many Sundays.

Her daughter Nina married Richard Leroy Beaner of St. Lawrence in 1959 and passed away from multiple sclerosis in 2006.

Marion is survived by her son-in-law, Richard Leroy Beaner of Hobbs, NM; grandchildren: Rhonda Kay Dupree of Hobbs, NM, Deanna Lee (Bruce) Allamon of Lubbock, TX, Richard Alan (D’aun) Beaner of Hobbs, NM, and Dale Wade (Cathy) Beaner of Puyallup, WA; one sister, Georgia Soper of Miller; one brother, Ron (Jo) Rombough of Hill City; sisters-in-law: Rhoda Rombough of Miller, and Mavis Rombough of Virgil; and 13 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Veral in 1985; daughter, Nina; sisters: Bernita Niederauer, Elaine Littlefield, Edie Hathaway, and Fern Peck; and brothers, Donald Rombough and Everet Rombough.

The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society of Miller for the excellent care given to Marion.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Marion’s arrangements.
