Arlene Moncur

Arlene Moncur 81, of Miller, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 the Adagio Gardens Assisted Living in Phoenix, Arizona.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Rev. Max Miller officiating. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.

Arlene was born on February 10, 1934 in Colman, SD. She was the oldest of two children born to William (Bill) and Nettie Andersen. She attended country school and High School in Colman and graduated from South Dakota State University with a major in English (Secondary Education) and a minor in Physical Education.

She moved to Miller with her first husband, Jim Knudsen. They had a daughter, Kristi, in 1961. She was widowed in 1962. She married Roger Moncur in May of 1966. In 1970, Arlene had twins, Staci and William (Bill).

She taught high school English in Miller for over 20 years and touched the lives of many high school students. Arlene was also active in P.E.O., Hand County 4H, and various local clubs and committees. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller and taught Sunday School there for many years.

Arlene enjoyed reading, music, golf, playing bridge, dancing of many varieties, and spending time with her family. She spent the past 30 years wintering in Arizona near her children, grandchildren, and many good friends.

She is survived by her sister, Janice Ruelle (Dick) of Mesa, Arizona; her three children: Kristi Lee (Tom) of Chandler, Arizona, Staci (Rob) Reimers of Mesa, Arizona, and Bill (Kelly) Moncur of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren: Lilyana Lee, Annika Reimers, and Carson Reimers; and many friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, Jim Knudsen and Roger Moncur.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Arlene’s arrangements.
