Margaret Mary Mallett, 80, of Brookings died Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rude’s Funeral Home with the Liturgical Wake Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary to follow. Interment will be in the St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to the Brookings County Food Pantry, located at 217 4th Street, Brookings.
Margaret ‘Maggie’ Marx was born Jan. 29, 1936 to Edward and Elizabeth (Dohman) Marx on a farm west of Bristol, SD. She attended Country school to the eighth grade and graduated from Bristol High School. She married Robert Mallett on May 20, 1954 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bristol.
They had seven children, Debbie (Lonnie) Winker, Karen (Dean) Stahl, Edward (Kathy) Mallett, Robert (Tammy) Mallett, Brenda (Don) Swartos, Kay (Tim) Trooien, and Bryan (Heather) Mallett. Maggie was blessed to have 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Maggie attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, where she was very active. She was on the Core Building Committee, Finance Committee, served as Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and helped with various other things.
Maggie retired from Hy-Vee in October of 2001. She also was a postal employee at Bruce and helped care for several elderly people.
Maggie loved visiting her children, enjoyed having her friends for coffee parties, and loved traveling with family and friends as well.
Maggie is survived by her seven children; three brothers, James (Pat) Marx, Duane Marx, and William (Beth) Marx; and two sisters, Patricia (Larry Wein) and Janice Kruse.
Maggie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mallett; two brothers, John and Denny Marx; parents-in-law, Harold and Julianne Mallett; two sisters-in-law, Charlene and Betty Marx; and grandson, Paul Michael Mallett.
